Your first move is to make sure that the accident is correctly logged in the book as soon as it occurs. If you don’t, you could be in a tricky position in the future. After all, why wouldn’t you log the incident if you were injured at work? Always write it down in a formal capacity regardless of the punitive action you are considering.

Get Your Employer To Sign Off

It is also important that you get a member of the company to sign a document saying that the accident happened. They may not want to sign anything that says it was their fault for obvious reasons. But, you don’t need them to go that far. If you do need to assign blame, a judge or a jury will work that out in the future. To begin with, you just need them to acknowledge that it happened and when it happened.

Ask People To Act As A Witness

Even with these two precautions, it is still your word versus their word should it escalate any further. To make sure that you are in the best position, you need witnesses. A witness is someone that was there when the accident occurred. They don’t need to be a health and safety professional or give any complex testimony. All they need to do is say they saw what happened. Witnesses are hard to come by as they don’t want to get involved in the middle of an argument. But, they do exist, so make sure they do their civic duty.

Seek Legal Advice Early

There is nothing wrong with asking a personal injury attorney for their professional opinion. You deserve compensation if you feel your employer was at fault. At the very least, you should get an idea of how you would fair should it go to court or a tribunal.

Go To The Doctors

Injuries are not always easy to spot as soon as the incident takes place. In fact, they can lie dormant for ages and then become a problem in later life. The doctor will be able to take care of any injuries you sustain quickly. Plus, their expert opinion could come in handy.
