There’s a growing idea in society that as you get older, you simply have to accept that life is going to start taking things away from you. You may, for instance, find that your health isn’t what it used to be. You may experience pain in your body, and your joints will feel stiff. There are plenty of people who just think that this is just one of the signs that you’re getting older. But is that actually true? As a matter of fact, it isn’t, and not everyone who reaches sixty starts to get pains in their leg muscles, their back or the rest of their body. Instead, for many years of retirement, some people stay as fit as a fiddle, perfectly able to keep being active and exercise on a regular basis.

This is perhaps one of the biggest excuses for people who stop exercising when they get older. They claim they can’t exercise because they are in too much pain and, to be honest, they’re probably telling the truth. But, it is important to make the link between the pain they are feeling and the lack of exercise in their life.

Fitting In Fitness

This is the first issue we need to think about here. You need to know that when you don’t exercise, you are missing the workout that your body desperately needs. You need to make sure that you are keeping those limbs movings and stretching those muscles. This is true when you’re younger, and it’s also true as you age. You need to be doing all that you can to keep active. That doesn’t mean that you have to constantly work out. Once or twice a week is more than enough time to spend exercising. Particularly, if you can work in staying active into your daily schedule. For instance, rather than getting the bus to work if it’s nearby you could cycle.

As you age, you shouldn’t let exercise fall by the wayside. You have to keep going, albeit at a far less vigorous place. Even as you look towards the age of retirement you should still be going on walks and getting out of the house. It is the only way to make sure that you stay in the best shape possible and avoid that back pain we talked about.

If you stay still for long periods, binge watching Netflix or lying on the sofa, you are going to find yourself in the position where your back does start to ache all the time. So, exercise is important. Before we move onto whether you need to worry about the pain in your back, let’s look at a few other causes.

An Old Injury

An injury from years ago can lay dormant and only show a full impact at a later stage in your life. Ten years after you slipped and fell on the ice, you might find that your hip is starting to hurt or that there is a sharp pain in your leg. Why is this? Well, it’s most likely because continued use of the leg with the injury has caused the issue to grow worse to the point where it does become something that can not be ignored.

This is why whenever you injure yourself, you should always get checked out by the doctor. It’s the only way to tell how bad the injury is and make sure that it doesn’t eventually come back to bite you. They might even be able to offer you the appropriate treatment to ensure that issue doesn’t get any worse.

Of course, you might find that the pain you’re suffering from is actually caused by a surgery or medical treatment that you had years ago and has left a mark. Medical malpractice is common, and doctors may damage the body through a surgery and not even tell the patient. You should always look for signs of damage or injury after a surgery. The doctor will tell you that feeling unwell or experiencing pain can last for a few weeks after treatment is complete and this is absolutely true, but if the pain continues after a few months, it does suggest that something has gone wrong. If that’s the case, then do consult legal help or at the very least, go back and speak to the doctor.

Alternatively, you might find that the reason for your pain is due to how you are sleeping at night. Perhaps, you are sleeping on a mattress that isn’t providing the full support for your back. If that’s the case, then you can and perhaps will wake up in the morning with a pain in your lower back and eventually it could become constant.
