Managers Don’t Share Accountability

There are so many companies out there that expect their employees to be fully accountable for all the work they carry out. That means, if a member of staff makes a mistake while carrying out their work, then they should be totally accountable for making that mistake. As a result, they will take full responsibility and any punishments that come with it. But is demanding this amount of accountability from the workforce really necessary? And, for that matter, is it really right? By demanding such accountability, managers and business owners are effectively washing their hands of their employees’ mistakes and problems. Wouldn’t it be better if they stepped in to help a troubled employee out whenever they need help? That would certainly make for a much improved environment at work, as employees won’t be completely scared and anxious about the negative consequences that would come if they do make a little mistake.

Training Isn’t Up To Scratch

These days, the economy isn’t doing too great, and that means there isn’t a whole load of cash to go around at work. As a result, most entrepreneurs and company owners are trying to tighten their purse strings as much as possible. And, unfortunately, training courses and sessions are often the first to things to get cut. This is doing employees a massive disservice, though, as training can really help them to develop as individuals and become more efficient in their jobs. It is also important to provide all workers with first aid and a CPR class so that everyone onsite knows how to act in an emergency situation. It is also necessary that everyone is fully trained to use all equipment and tools that your company works with. Ideally, you should also budget for team training so that every employee is at the top of their game and can perform to their full potential in their job.

If bosses aren’t in the office some days, then this can actually be a good thing. That’s because employees will learn to be independent, and won’t rely on those above them to get the job done. However, this can quickly turn into a disadvantage if the company owner and top-level management are MIA for a few days at a time. It’s good to promote independence within the workforce, but employees’ managers and the top-tier staff should be reachable most of the time so that they can answer any queries and listen to the workers’ concerns. If employees do not know where their managers are and are unable to reach them, they might start to feel like their bosses are not bothered about them. It also causes problems with transparency within the company. After all, if employees do not know where their managers are, they might think they are having an easy day out on the golf course! And if the workforce thinks their managers are away having fun, it could be critical to morale and motivation in the office.

Some companies think they can solve all their problems by replacing large numbers of staff.
